Happy Early Valentine’s Day!!!!! Love is in the air and I am sure everyone will be at their sexiest…. To help with that challenge CoverGirl gave me some new colors to try. I decided to pass some new shades to my friend Zerline. She will tell you that she rarely changes her lip color. It’s been this wine color since we were in undergrad. Which was many moons ago. So I asked her to try the new lipsticks and report back if she was ready for a change and love….. This is her review.
Day one with ‘into the red’ by Cover Girl
I love red shoes. I have about three pair. I’ve got red earrings, a red sweater and my hair is even dyed a shade of red. Red lips, though … not my stilo.
But, I had a Valentine’s Day challenge, and I’m jumping in. Can’t be that bad, right?
Well, when I saw the red on my lips at 6:45 in the morning, I wasn’t at all looking forward to walking around with a new face today. I remembered, though, that a makeup counter person suggested that I could use lip liner with any color, and I dare not leave the house without my MAC lipglass, so I hooked up the red with my face ‘nightmoth’ by MAC and my gloss and it worked. … But I was still squeamish and self conscious so I add a little mascara (pink and green bottle) and shadow and I’m set.
I want to ask those around me what they think, but I don’t know the folks at work enough for them to be really honest with me. After lunch I run into a very good girlfriend and she comments on my lipstick and how pretty I look. No mention of the red, per se, but something apparently just stood out! Yess! I’m hooked.

CoverGirl's Into the Red
But the more I wear it, the more I like whenever I pass by a mirror or remote reflection of myself. The key with ‘into the red’: Continual freshening up. I applied in the morning before leaving; before my walk downtown for lunch. After lunch, of course, and before leaving work for my commute home. Hey, you never know if your Valentine may be in the car next to you sitting at a red light.
So, I’m, as Cover Girl puts it, “into the red.”
Day two with ‘tawny port’
So, there’s a lil more orange/brown in today’s color. Still very much far from what I’m used to, but I can deal. The MAC lipstick pencil does wonders again, and I’m sure any various brand lip pencils can help tone up or down a color.

CoverGirl's tawny port
After wearing the previous day’s bold and bright “into the red,” I can definitely handle Cover Girl’s ‘tawny port.’ I feel good, still feel bold, different and ready to go outside and let the natural light reflect of my kissable but Valentine-less lips.
I love red. Now, when I want to spice things up a bit more, I will couple my red shoes, jewelry, sweater and hair with my lips!
My favorite, though is ‘into the red.’ Whether I score a last-minute Valentine’s date or hit a Happy Hour with the girls, I’m choosing ‘into the red.’
Thanks Zerline for accepting the challenge!!!! Your lips are hott!!!! Who else is daring to go into the red? Share your experience and your Valentine’s day Beat!!!!
Both are very pretty. The second one looks great if you’re a little skittish about going completely red-red. How were the textures?. Do you need the gloss or could you apply without any moisturizer?
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do this. It was fun and I’m looking forward to delving into more colors and trying new things, thanks to you and your blog!
I’ve been experimenting with reds for several seasons . I feel that red is a ‘classic’ in nail color and lip color. One day I spent nearly half an hour at a department store looking for the perfect shade of red. They were out of stock on the sample I chose, so I had to leave empty handed. I think for me, I am going to choose Cover Girl’s Tawny Port, although I love “Into the Red” on Z. (She has a beautiful smile and great lips, by the way.)

I love this…and I love the new look…go LA!
